Say hello Karen Dudley. Karen is the person behind The Kitchen in Woodstock and author of three books. A passionate advocate of vegetable-led dishes for South African home cooks, Karen is excited about the flavours that we share and about the collaborative work that brings into being food that touches people’s hearts.

Question: What’s your goal/vision for this conference?
Answer: I’m excited for #SAPOCTable conference and I hope it will be a platform to encourage others in the food industry and to listen to what others have to share.
Question: Name one person in this broader industry whom you look up to or a person who you really admire and why.
Answer: I am loving Samin Nosrat @ciaosamin (Salt Fat Acid Heat) and I like the work of Diana Henry @dianahenryfood (generous and genuinely interested in others). MFK Fisher is my favourite food writer. In SA I admire the work of David Higgs (huge heart, vision, commitment and humility); Richard Carstens, Lucas Carstens (Makaron – I’m avidly watching his work on Instagram), Ivor Jones, Kobus van der Merwe (his gentleness and love of the land), the writing work of Anna Trapido, Mpho Tshukudu @mphotshukudu_rd and many more. Most of these people have been doing great work of vision for a long time

Answer: Transformation in the food industry will happen when people recognise excellence.
Question: What would you love people to know about you and your work?
Answer: I believe that lunchtime is from 12 – 2PM. I stay constantly hungry and curious. Creating a new recipe or finding a solution a day keeps me happy and inspired.
