Q & A with Abigail
Question: What’s your goal/vision for this conference?
Answer: I think it’s important to get conversations started about why people of colour are not being included in a big way in the industry. The conference is a chance to network and organize campaigns centred on including African cuisine in fine dining menus across the continent and indeed across the world.
Question: Name one person in this broader industry whom you look up to or a person who you really admire and why.
Answer: Because I work in the media food space, I have been inspired of late by @sibamtongana . I like how she has taken her brand across the world, showing that people of colour have something to give to the industry. Going forward we need more Black and minority faces on TV talking about local cuisines and inspiring the world to try out different foods.
Question: Fill in the following: Transformation in this industry (name your specific field or cause) will happen when…
Answer: Transformation in this industry will happen when we take control of media content, we get our message out to a broader audience that our food and culture is so rich and can’t be ignored
Question: What would you love people to know about you and your work
Answer: I would love people to know that the whole idea of my TV shows is to put all races on an equal platform to showcase their culinary talents. Good food is good food in whatever language, and whether we are black, white, brown, yellow or green, we all have something to share with the world in terms of our food and culture.
